Focused Improvement (FI) is the first pillar of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). It involves a set of structured, team-based activities and approaches aimed to eliminate or reduce specifically identified losses in any process. These structured steps are aligned to the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA). In simpler terms, it is a process that identifies the system’s problems and then modifies the whole system by finding the most cost effective, time saving and least disruptive solutions that will optimize the system. FI can be implemented for improvement activities of any size or complexity in any organisation.
